Details

Baltic Birch Plywood is lightweight multi-ply plywood made entirely of birch plies, using no softwood or filler plies in the center. The result is a product with greater stiffness, strength and durability. Baltic birch is graded as a B-BB, which means that one face, B, will be a whole face, no splices, have no patches (plugs that are used to cover defects) but may contain knot pattern or mineral streaks. The other face, BB, and the inner plies will contain patches and tight and not so tight knots. Both faces are sanded smooth. Multiple-ply edges can be sanded or routed, and the plywood has excellent screw-holding power. The exterior glue used in this plywood makes it suitable for outdoor projects (with an appropriate outdoor finish). Common uses of Baltic Birch Plywood include cabinet backs, drawer sides and bottoms, painted scrollsaw projects, or when building jigs and fixtures.
Features:

  • B-BB Grade - one face will not have splices or patches
  • Higher quality plywood
  • Uses no fillers or softwood

  • Thick face plies allow for more resistance to sand-through
  • Composed of birch from parts of Russia

    Inaccurate Dimensions

Everyone knows wood is expensive, so making the most out of your cuts is important. Imagine needing expensive plywood for a custom project. Say you need EXACTLY 48" measurement, but you get home to find out that the product you purchased is 1/8" short of true dimension. It is actually true of all sheet goods you purchase at woodcraft. The sheet goods are square; however, they are 1/8" shy of the true advertised dimension. I was not happy to get the goods all the way back to my shop only to find that I had to alter my project plans significantly to make this wood work for my project as I was under a time crunch. At least be accurate in your description of your products. This is an expensive disappointment for me.

Better to buy in store than online

I've bought this plywood in the store that's an hour away from my house. It's better than anything in you'll find in the big box stores. I decided to try an online purchase, but when it arrived the corners were pretty beat up -- there was no reinforcement padding for the corners. So I'll have to shave an inch off all around the sheet. Next time will buy directly at the store.
