Description: HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. These little "hills and valleys" are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like candlesticks, tools handles and finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. You can make finials for furniture repair or make beautiful Christmas ornaments. Beads and Coves are used in all aspects of turning. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. Description: HANDS-ON. Chisels, scrapers, planes and saws are the most fundamental woodworking tools in the shop. Howard will provide hands-on instruction on how to sharpen, adjust and use each of these great tools. Students will practice "old world" basic exercises with each tool. Students will learn the unique techniques of spindle turning to create various sizes of Beads and Coves. These little "hills and valleys" are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like candlesticks, tools handles and finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. You can make finials for furniture repair or make beautiful Christmas ornaments. Beads and Coves are used in all aspects of turning. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. Our Hand-Tool expert, Howard Hale, has created a great new class in which everyone will build a full size, wall hanging hand-tool cabinet.This "major cabinet building class" will have each student machining top quality Oak plywood and Oak hardwood. The tool cabinet design is based on the traditional old world layout that allows each of your hand-tools to have a special place to hang. The cabinet measures a whopping 17" deep x 30" wide x 36" tall and includes two 4" deep doors that will hold lots of chisels, screw drivers or measuring tools. THURSDAY & FRIDAY NIGHT will start with design, layout, rough plywood and hardwood cutting. SATURDAY will be very busy with construction and glue-up of the main box and doors. SUNDAY will include door hardware and the tool hanging jig/holders will be designed and some will get made. Students will learn the unique techniques of spindle turning to create various sizes of Beads and Coves. These little "hills and valleys" are used to decorate all types of woodworking projects like candlesticks, tools handles and finials. A finial can dress up the lid of a turned bowl or a lidded box. You can make finials for furniture repair or make beautiful Christmas ornaments. Beads and Coves are used in all aspects of turning. Students will learn turning techniques, tool selection, wood selection and finishing details. Traditional tools are recommended to cut the fine details but, carbide tools are welcome. Description: HANDS-ON. Paul DeMars will teach this dynamic and fundamental, "3-session", class for all beginning turners. Session #1: Spindle Turning. This class is geared to help you get started on the lathe. Tool selection, handling, safety and machine basics will be covered. You will learn how to make cuts to produce beads, coves and other basic spindle shapes. Session #2: Bowl Turning/Face Grain. Perfect your basic skills by learning to turn a wooden bowl. Face plate turning, tool selection, techniques, sanding and finishing will be covered. Session #3: Bowl Turning/End- Grain. Learn to turn another style of bowl by it's end-grain. End-grain bowls are very different than face-grain bowls and will allow you to expand your turning skills. Paul is a great teacher and will provide each student with hands-on skills that will last a lifetime.
