Details
Use 1 of 3 mortise width adjustments for perfectly fitting joints and fast assembly; easy to adjust while the jointer is operating. Cut long mortises in an instant thanks to the simultaneous turning and oscillating movement without kickback. 11/16" dust port extracts up to 95% of chips generated when used in conjunction with any one of Festool's vacuum systems. Retractable stop pins for quick and precise positioning of the initial domino tenon on both work pieces. Five catch positions at 0, 22.5, 45, 67.5, and 90 degrees, as well as infinitely variable mortising angles from 0 to 90 degrees.
Simple, precise mortising fence height adjustment (with scale) offers accurate stops for locating mortising opening in the center of material thicknesses: 16, 20, 22, 25, 28, and 40mm. Quick, precise adjustment for 5 different mortising depths. Robust inner mechanism for consistently accurate routing results. I love this tool
I still remember when I first saw a YouTube of the Festool Domino about seven years ago. It was a demonstration of the connector system, and I was immediately hooked. Then I saw the price tag and my heart sunk. I was new to woodworking and I couldn't see myself spending that amount on the tool. A year later I decided to get the Dowlmax to build several bathroom vanities. It is a great tool but the setup and cleanup time had me dreaming of something faster. So I saved over the next six years to purchase the DF 500 and I am not regretting it at all. I have to admit, I was surprised by the weight of the tool. It is heavier than I had expected, but because of the way it is used, the weight doesn't come into play. It is about three times faster than working with the Dowelmax. I keep saying to myself that I will still occasionally use the Dowelmax but naw... that aint gonna happen. The funny thing is that like I mentioned at the beginning of this review, it was the connector system that originally caught my eye. But over the years, because I am a DIYer other than building a bed or table that I don't have any plans on building any time soon, I don't have any need for the connector set. The Dominoes are amazing for the things that I do. Now to address the cost. I have read many reviews about return on investment. For me, the amount of time I am saving on a quality tool that I use is priceless. Even though the price was high, I never scoffed at the guys that did purchase it. I have seen guys and ladies on YouTube that have been using it for at least the past ten years. I see it being used in production shops. So I know I will still be using this for some time. I'm not praising this because of the amount I have spent on it. I love the way it works. It hasn't disappointed in it's delivery.

Domino DF 500
This is an absolute time saving machine! Allows easy dry fit assembly for testing before glue up and then make a strong and perfectly aligned finish cabinet/project. I also have the Mafell Duodowel DDF 40 which is a great tool, however the dowels allow no movement for fine adjustment on complicated project. Mitered door frames are a perfect example. With the Mafell it's almost impossible to get the final rail to come together as the dowels allow no "wiggle room" for assembly; with the Domino system use the medium loose setting for the final rail and it goes together without a hitch. Great tool and I must say that had I purchased this first I would not have purchased the DuoDowel as it fulfills many of the same functions and is more forgiving of operator inconsistency.

Works Great... Expensive
Love the point and shoot nature of this. If you don't need strength... use biscuits... if you don't want to deal with the cost of the dominos... use dowels... I enjoy using it and it works well. I will buy an XL or a clone... when the patent expires in a few years.

Please Do Not Wait...
I do a fair amount of custom woodworking with kitchen/dinning tables, bar tops, chairs, stools, so forth and so on. Using pretty much any and all types of woods available. I asked a good carpenter friend of mine years ago what's up with this Festool brand and why so expensive? He told they are the "Holy Grail" of power tools and supposed to be the very best. Here we are years later and tired of kicking the can down the road I pulled the pin! I purchase the DF 500 Q with the CT 48 dust extraction system. They are pure magic together and worth every single penny! If you are like I was and thinking Festool is a little pricey they are...but they will make your like so much easier and worth their weight in gold! Anyways my good carpenter friend who comes over and uses my big table & band saw tools from time to time came over to check out my new Festool collection. He said "You really did it", I am so envious and happy for you.

I took a how to build a box class. Attached the corners with glue and clamps. Not good enough. I looked at mini fixs, too hard. Pocket holes, how to get them exactly right? Dowels, yawn. Biscuits hard to measure. Then came the domino. Man oh man this tool is da bomb. Easy to use, I have yet to use any measuring device to assemble my projects. It is dead on exact. The coolest part is I can assemble my projects with nothing but the domino's and disassemble to make design improvements then reassemble with no problems. I love this tool. You just have to get past the amazing cost. My Jointer, Planer, table saw, 12" dewalt miter saw were all each less than the domino. However I still would buy it without question. I love it.

Great engineering
Easy to use right out of the box. I did have to find my metric ruler to avoid converting measurements for set up. Repetitive cuts are easy to set up along with utilizing the built in stops.
