This 6mm (1/4") Beveled Edge Chisel from pfeil is crafted using the same technology and attention to detail that have made pfeil carving tools famous the world over. Pfeil uses only the finest Swiss alloy tool steel. The blade is heat treated individually, using the latest technology, and is expertly ground on all sides with a 25° main bevel on the cutting edge. The Elm handle was chosen for beauty and features an octagonal and slightly ovoid shape for improved control and comfort. However, there is something different about this Beveled Edge Chisel! The side bevel is swept back towards the centerline as opposed to being parallel. This design permits the blade being used in some pretty tight places, such as cleaning up dovetails, plus we think it just plain looks good while also being functional. This marriage of Old-World craftsmanship and modern technology, plus the legendary Swiss attention to detail, may have created the world’s best bench chisel.

    Well worth the wait

I've been waiting for these for a while now. I cut all my dovetails and joints by hand, and although the previous Pfeil chisels were excellent, the new bevel edge is much better for getting into those tight corners. As with all Pfeil chisels, the steel is excellent quality, taking and holding a fine edge that can take some punishment. They come well polished and flat, needed virtually no back flattening, as I found when I put it through my standard sharpening regimen. The handles are a bit rough, like their predecessors, but these are classed by Pfeil as carpenter's chisels. Their bench chisels have much finer handles. Still, they take a lot of pounding without splitting, which is great as I often chop out dovetail waste rather than sawing. The super sharp edge can pare fine shavings as well, making these excellent for joinery.
