    Details

The newest advancement in woodcarving technology! The Automach® Handcraft Power Carver is rugged and reliable. Aluminum die-cast body is light and vibration free. Special reciprocating action of the cutter head carves through the toughest woods with just simple hand direction. Greater pressure causes a deeper cut. For safety, free-floating action keeps blades motionless until pressed against wood. The laminated blades move at 10,000 vibrations per minute, leaving a smooth cut surface. Carvers appreciate the versatility in portability and movement, as well as accuracy and speed. A powerful 40-watt ball bearing motor delivers 10,000 vibrations per minute for 1 mm cutting strokes. Includes 6' grounded cord, rear on/off switch, hanger, five blades, two spanner wrenches, and complete instructions for use. UL listed.

      What a WORKHORSE

Now, years later, i can write this review. When i bought my Automach the internet had not been invented yet. As a professional violinmaker, i learned of these machines from other violinmakers. They used theirs hours at a time. I bought one, and loved it. I still love it thirty-plus years later. It has many hundreds of hours on it, rough carving violins, violas and 'Cellos, working both the maple backs and spruce tops. All i ever did was keep the tools reasonably sharp and occasionally lubing the head-end. Great tool. Far beyond the power and capacity of any of the "hobby grade" carvers on the market. If you only want to buy one power carving tool, this is the one.

High end but wonderful hand carver

Have not used it enough to experience cons yet. For my arthritic thumbs, this is a godsend. Friendlier and more precise than a disc type carver - more delicate cuts and easier to manipulate - and even more accurate than other micro carvers. No air-compression equipment needed. Very useful quality tool. Good for turnings and planar work.

      Very nice tool

Great for roughing out but if you go slow it isn't too bad for finish cuts. I do however wish there were more of a variety of cutting tips.

      Fast and simple!

I ordered this for my father who has been carving for years. He absolutely loved it and liked how it handled. He said it was easy to use. The bits that come with it, don't allow him to do some of the intricate detail he would like, but they are available for purchase. He absolutely loves it. I ordered it on 12/23, and Woodcrafters had it delivered on 12/24. How awesome is that?!

Real tools are still being manufactured

I already had two carvers (a Ryobi DC500 and a no-name Chinese one) and my son just brought me this one from the Woodcraft store in Orlando, FL. It is by far the best! Lightweight metal casing (when was the last time you saw a power tool not made of plastic?), smooth running motor, pre-sharpened blades that can be put to use right out of the box, a pleasure to work with. It is worth every dollar.

      Greatest Carver ever manufactured

I have created some really fine sculptures with this tool. I formerly did all carvving by hand, but with the carver I can create better, larger projects much quicker and do a better job.

Wood doesn't get any denser than IPE

I used the carver as a gouge for carving spoon bowls in very dense woods (ipe, jatoba, massaranduba) and it performed very well.

      Meets my needs well

I carve a variety of woods and was skeptical of this tools ability to move enough volume to meet my needs. It surprised me in that it has the power and control to rough out my bigger pieces rapidly, removing large amounts of wood with little effort, and good surface.

      This is my second Automach

After years of use, I had my first Automach rebuilt and added a second unit. As a professional carver, it helps to have two power carvers to work with. I put thousands of hours on my first Automach before it required service. Door County Carver

      Automach Power Carver .... DAH!!

The pictorial demo on the Net advertisement seemed to be very good. A carver eating through OAK wood!! I planned to use the carver on Australian Burl wood, Red Mallee to be exact. The wood is hard and dense. The Automach power carver wsould not even touch the wood; not even make a dent in it. In am profoundly disappointed in the tool. I'm still in a quandry as to whether to return the tool. BAD investment for me. DR. Harry L. Moore[@]

      SMOOTH AND STRONG... POWER HOUSE..

I AM A NOVICE AT CARVING BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO LEARN, MIGHT AS WELL GO WITH THE BEST RIGHT FROM THE START. THIS TOOL IS LIGHT BUT STURDY. SMOOTH YET POWERFUL AND QUIET TOO. DOSE HEAT UP A BIT AFTER A WHILE. BUT SHE CAN TAKE IT. COOLS OFF QUICKLY. AS A BEGINNER I AM GLAD I STARTED OFF WITH A HIGH END TOOL SO I CAN CONCENTRATE ON MY SKILLS INSTEAD OF FIGHTING WITH A LESSER TOOL
