Description: If you want to improve your finishing skills then this class is for you. Bob McGarry, our finishing expert will cover safety & surface prep including planes, scrapers, sanding and managing defects. Coloring wood using pigment stains, dye stains, chemical stains, glazes, and paints. Grain filling will also be discussed and demonstrated. Basic color theory will also be covered.

Description: In this class, Bob McGarry will introduce you to finishes and solvents. He will cover shellac, lacquer finishes, oil vanishes, varnishes, combo finishes and water borne finished. He will also discuss and demonstrate how to finish our finishes by polishing (rubbing out). We will wrap-up with a question and answer period.

Description: This class will cover the different types of router tables and fences available. We will, also, cover when to use a router table versus handheld operations, as well as, the bits that only should be used in a router table. Each student will have the opportunity to practice edge routing, pattern routing, and making a simple molding on a router table. Each student will leave with plans for the jigs demonstrated in class.

Description: Learn the basics of the most useful machine in your shop, the table-saw. We will cover the selection of the table-saw blades and accessories. Also, covered will be tune-up and maintenance of the table-saw. The basic safety rules will be covered and stressed. Using square stock, instructor will demonstrate the safe way to complete the eight basic cuts, which are the basis for about 98% of table-saw operations. Each student will have an opportunity to practice the 8 basic cuts in class

Grinding, honing, and stropping will be covered, and when and how to apply each, to keep your tools operating at the peak of performance. By the end of the class you will understand what sharp is and know how to achieve it in your shop. Bring a chisel or plane iron of your own, and if time permits you can start on sharpening your tools.
