Router 101 - Basic Router Operations with Bob McGarry

Description: This class covers basic router operations including router types, maintenance of router bits, and the various types of router bits and accessories. Each student will have the opportunity to practice edge routing, template routing, rabbiting and dadoing with the router.

Basic Finishing Class Day 1 with Bob McGarry

Class Size: 2-10
Description: If you want to improve your finishing skills then this class is for you. Bob McGarry, our finishing expert will cover safety & surface prep including planes, scrapers, sanding and managing defects. Coloring wood using pigment stains, dye stains, chemical stains, glazes, and paints. Grain filling will also be discussed and demonstrated. Basic color theory will also be covered.

Basic Finishing Class Day 2 with Bob McGarry

Prerequisite: Basic Finishing Class Day 1

Class Size: 2-10
Description: In this class, Bob McGarry will introduce you to finishes and solvents. He will cover shellac, lacquer finishes, oil vanishes, varnishes, combo finishes and water borne finished. He will also discuss and demonstrate how to finish our finishes by polishing (rubbing out). We will wrap-up with a question and answer period.

Router 201 - Router Table Operations with Bob McGarry
Intermediate
Prerequisite: Router 101
Tools Required: Safety glasses with side shields, dust mask, and hearing protection are mandatory. Shop apron, notebook and pencil are recommended.
Class Size: 2-6
Description: This class will cover the different types of router tables and fences available. We will, also, cover when to use a router table versus handheld operations, as well as, the bits that only should be used in a router table. Each student will have the opportunity to practice edge routing, pattern routing, and making a simple molding on a router table. Each student will leave with plans for the jigs demonstrated in class.

Basic Furniture Restoration And Upcycling with Bob McGarry

Description: Curious about refinishing or upcycling older furniture? Than this overview class is for you. Bob will discuss current products and methods, to repair, refinish or change the appearance of your favorite piece of furniture, or that thrift store find. We will cover stripping methods, repair of existing finishes and color-over procedures. Common finish problems and the solutions, will also be covered.

Description: Learn the basics of the most useful machine in your shop, the table-saw. We will cover the selection of the table-saw blades and accessories. Also, covered will be tune-up and maintenance of the table-saw. The basic safety rules will be covered and stressed. Using square stock, instructor will demonstrate the safe way to complete the eight basic cuts, which are the basis for about 98% of table-saw operations. Each student will have an opportunity to practice the 8 basic cuts in class

Description: This class will cover selection & set-up of the jointer and planer, explanation followed by demonstration of milling stock four square using the FEE method. The class will, also, cover squaring stock wider than jointer bed.

Description: In this follow-up course to table-saw 101, we will begin to put the eight basic cuts to work. Demonstration and practice making rabbits, lap joints, dados and tenons. Selection and set-up of dados blades will be discussed.

Description: Using hand tools can take your woodworking to the next level, however, to use them effectively, you need to know how to sharpen them, and keep them sharp. Grinding, honing, and stropping will be covered, and when and how to apply each, to keep your tools operating at the peak of performance. By the end of the class you will understand what sharp is and know how to achieve it in your shop. Bring a chisel or plane iron of your own, and if time permits you can start on sharpening your tools.
