Beginners Carving Class with Wayne Preston
Beginner
Part 2: Saturday, May 28, 12 PM - 2 PM
Class Size: 2-6
Description: This class is designed for a beginner with no previous experience. We will focus on the first day on the best feel and correct handling of the carving knife. You will learn the importance of cutting with the grain and how to determine which way the grain is going. We will also talk about sharpening your knife. Three carving exercises will be completed in the class. In the second class we will take on a carving project you choose, from several options. We will discuss different styles of carving e.g., spoon carving; relief carving; carving in the round; and walking stick carving. You will need to purchase a carving glove and knife available at the store.

Description: Want to turn a bowl, but you are a beginner with the lathe? This class is for you! In this expanded bowl turning class, Matt will take you every step of the way to turning a bowl, from tool selection and sharpening, through mounting the bowl, and turning a pleasing form.
