Introduction to KUMIKO with Steve Shenefiel

Description: Our introduction to Kumiko instructs students in the techniques, tools, and jigs involved in accurately making Kumiko. Students will learn to make the exacting cuts required to create the traditional hempleaf pattern (asa no ha) often used in Japanese latticework. The class provides an excellent foundation for future classes that will use Kumiko as a decorative technique.To make Kumiko with the needed accuracy requires special jigs to achieve the precise angles, eachstudent will be supplied the needed jigs for use in the class. These jigs are available for sale should students wish to take them home.

Description: Taught by Don, and devoted to beginners with woodworking hand tools. Class will cover chisels, hand planes, various hand saws, marking gauges, shooting boards, basic sharpening techniques, and accuracy with hand tools. You may bring your own if you wish, but tools and materials will be provided. Purpose of the class is to familiarize a new woodworker with an alternative to power tools. We will be making a picture frame using hand tools only. Student will go home with their own picture frame.

All materials and tools provided, or you can bring your own tools if you wish.
