After machining, you will need to smooth the surface of your work piece with a hand plane or maybe remove a small piece of wood to make the joint fit with a bench chisel. In this class different hand tools will be discussed and demonstrated. How to use a bench chisel to make a crisp edge, how to smooth and remove milling marks with a smoothing hand plane are just a few examples of what will be discussed and demonstrated. Description: A sharp turning tool is the turner's best friend. If you are having difficulty achieving smooth cuts and relying on scraping rather than cutting then this is the class for you. In this class you will learn a quick and easy way to repeatedly and consistently sharpen all of your wood turning tools using the Wolverine sharpening system on a slow speed grinder. The Vari-grind jig will be demystified and you will be shown a simple method to sharpen all of your bowl and spindle gouges. Sharpening the spindle roughing gouge, skew, and scraper will also be discussed and demonstrated. Bring your turning tools - as many as you want to sharpen to practice your skills in class.

Making Dovetails with a Router with Bob MacKichan

Description: One of the quickest ways to make a dovetail joint for draws or boxes is with a router. In conjunction with a dovetail jig, you will be making perfect dovetails for draws, boxes and other items. This class will discuss the difference between a half-blind dovetail and a through dovetail.
