    Love this combination

Love this combination of wood. Just made this set and it was my first cutting board. Colors really popped when the Walrus Oil was applied!

Looks nice but not S4S at ALL

First, I wasn't sure I was ever going to receive these, they came nearly 3 months after I ordered them and the date kept getting pushed back. But now that I have them I had to come back to the product to make sure I ordered what I thought I did - there is absolutely no chance the one I got is ready to just glue up! There are mill marks on nearly all the board edges, boards are different heights and the cuts aren't even clean on the edges! It looks like the maple was milled against the grain on the edge, it has strips of tear out. However, they're some of the taller boards so I suppose I can plane them down. Fortunately I have the tools to (hopefully) make this right and I bought these on sale but it's going to take quite a bit of time and effort to make this work. The description says they've "removed the tedious and steps [sic]" - it would be faster for me to mill the stock myself, I expect this cutting board will be a chore. Pretty disappointed.

    Looks wonderful

Looked at other reviews before buying, but bought while it was on sale. Turned out wonderful with very little sanding.

    Looks great when finish

The end result after a few days of working on it is great. Getting there easily however requires a thickness planer. The pieces are not all uniform and there are variances in the height that will require you to use a thickness planer, or spend a lot of time with either a belt sander or some other sander, or a hand plane. The wood is pretty tough so it would take a lot of work to sand it down. I was lucky enough to have a 13" planer so i just ran it through a few passes on each side and finished it off with the orbital.

Beautiful, But Saw Cuts Are Flawed

Upon receiving this kit, I was really pleased at how nice it looked. When I inspected the sides that were to be glued together, there were significant gouges andblade marks in the wood that took significant amounts of time to clean up. The wenge was too thin to properly clean it up with shallow cuts using a plane or a cabinet scraper. the other boards were less problematic. I'm going to need to go find a replacement for the wenge before I can glue this up, and devote more hours to the project. Honestly, the money I saved wasn't worth the hassle.

Nice wood choice, but you will need a planer to complete

I bought several of these while they were on sale. The choice of wood is great, unfortunately, many pieces were not cut at the proper height causing misalignment in the glue-ups. The occasional thin pieces were warped. The only way to make these look good requires a planer (or drum sander) for completion, unless you want to put in a few hours sanding. I suppose if you are good at hand planing, that might work as well.
