With the Digital Planer Height Gauge simply lower your planer until the gauge reads .565 - 9/16. It can't get any easier! Unique gauge reads out both decimal and fractional measurements. Fits most portable "lunch box" style planers. Easy to follow installation instructions.

    Nice accessory for my planer

I had little trouble mounting this guage on my Ridgid thickness planer and found it to be handy for getting really accurate results. It can take a little while to calibrate but that’s expected. Highly recommended.

Great product after you figure it out!

Fits the Dewalt DW734. Had to think a little on my own and line up the scale with the left side of the planer scale. That means reversing some of the installment steps. Had I lined the display up with the left side of the planer scale there would not have been enough tape contact to hold it in place. Takes some patience but well worth it, accurate and would recommend it to another woodworker.

    Installation

This review is based upon Model wr510 type 2 and installed on Ridgid Mod TP13002 surface planer. The instructions that came with the planer is a little small, so my suggestion is go to Wixey's web site and through Accubat reader can install and print out a full page instructions. Now for the review: After removal of 2 screws from the pointer than reinstall with double washer. Problem 1: the two original screws slips through the double washer; solution: use small washers in between double washer and screw head. It was suggested by the instructions to drill into the holes from which the screws came from (the pointer). Best not to do since it is part of the machine (just a suggestion). Problem 2: It is stated that "Loosley attach the lever using the m6 bolt and hex nut followed by lineing up the top of readout case to match the planers height setting and then tighten screw. Then the following tighten all screws and check for free movement of the scale." If scale binds, loosen and re-tighten screws or carefully bend brackets. My suggestion and it is only my suggestion and was done on my machine, bought M6 screw about an inch long with a couple of m6 washers and placed them in between "the lever bracket", no bending needed. Problem 3: it mentioned to plane down a board to what ever thickness and mark on that board as a go to place for your calliper, (again my opinion, not consistant for thickness). Solution: use brass bars that have known thicknesses, this will give more exact measurement and consistancy. Problem 4: if a readout gives a negative number that is ok but when planning down to desired thickness can be confusing. Solution; place one of those brass bars, example 1/2" between the foot and frame and rounded end of the scale and press and hold for about 3 sec. to set to zero, remove brass bar and let scale rest on the foot of the frame. That measurement will show a positive 1/2". That new measurement will be your go to as starting point to plane down a board to thickness as needed. Also, the suggestion in the instructions as an option was to make the scale permanent by drilling holes into machine and using the screws as provided. My opinion is not to do that because if down the line you wish or remove that digital scale and use the original rule as provided on the machine, will now have to holes in that ruler. Please remember, these were only suggestions and my experience with the Ridgid planer I have. Hope these suggestions help.

    Perfect solution

This gauge is amazing in everyway. To be able to be acurate to within 1/1000 of an inch on any project is a woodworker's dream. Wixey makes great digital reader products. Highly recommended.

    a little tricky to setup

First unit I got was defective, the LCD display wouldn't show all the numbers. [...]Since this thing mounts to the plastic shell around my Dewalt planner, it was tricky to properly get setup plumb and square. If you don't get it properly plume and square, it binds as you try to use it. After I finally got it properly installed, it does work great. I would recomend this product.

TAKES THE GUESS WORK OUT OF IT

AS A MACHINIST I USE CNC EQUIPMENT EVERY DAY. THIS TAKES PLANING MATERIAL TO THE RIGHT THICKNESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL. I LIKE IT, AND USE IT OFTEN. THE INSTRUCTIONS MAKE SENCE AND I HAD IT INSTALLED IN 15 MIN.

Somewhat easy to set up and to use.

The Delta machine I instaled it on only had a scale up one side. I like this unit. It shows just how much material I'm removing.

    A good device for accuracy

I am finally able to get repeated accuracy with my planer. The directions were hard to understand, but I went to the web site and saw a picture and understood how it installed. I find that it is best to recalibrate the device each time I turn it on to use it, but it is easy to do. It is by far superior to using the calipers to try to get the accuracy I want.

    More than I expected

The instructions were hard to understand, but I went to the website and saw a picture understood and what needed to be done. It needs to be calibrated every time it is used if you are looking to be exact on your thickness, but it is easy to calibrate. It is easy to read the digital display or the lineal scale if you just want to be close, better than the manufactured scale. This device is a must for us type "A"'s.

    Penny wise, pound foolish

It would be difficult to attach this to my York Craft planer, nad the gauge. fitted to the table, would rise above the machine when making cuns in thin stock, leaving it exposed where it could ber hit and broken. kAt thkree times the cost, I purchased a Jet model which was made to be atached to many Taiwanese machines, including lmine. Despite the tripled cost, it was a bargain.

    Do nor expect product support.

Step 1. Throw away the instructions that come with the device. Step 2. Go to the web site to see very useable instructions.

Easy to install and easy to use

I found the product easy to install and to calibrate. It has proven to be very accurate and allows me to repeat the thickness of multiple boards to within better than 1/64".
